Maximum Sentence Imposed on the Perpetrator Who Raped and Attempted to Kill a Minor
Maximum Sentence for the Perpetrator: Another Case Won to Protect a Child
The court has found a man guilty of raping and attempting to kill a minor and has imposed the maximum sentence — 15 years of imprisonment.
In addition, the court ordered the perpetrator to pay moral compensation to the child in the amount of UAH 824,000. While no decision can undo what the child has endured, this is an important step toward restoring justice and acknowledging the harm caused.

This marks the third case in 2026 in which the Child Rescue team has helped secure a just verdict in cases involving violence against children.
Behind each such decision is not only a legal process, but also a child’s difficult journey through trauma, fear, and gradual recovery. Throughout this entire process, the Child Rescue team remained by the child’s side, providing comprehensive support.
From the very first disclosure to the final court decision, the child received psychological, social, legal, and medical assistance. Our psychologists supported the child at every stage of the pre-trial investigation and court proceedings, helping to reduce the risk of re-traumatization, restore a sense of safety, and rebuild trust in the world.
A crucial role in achieving this result was played by the coordinated work of Child Rescue lawyers Tetiana Hnatiuk and Serhii Stelmakh, who ensured professional legal protection of the child’s rights and consistently advocated for the child’s interests in court.
Child Rescue continues to work to ensure that every child who has experienced violence receives not only support, but also justice. We believe that no child should ever be left alone with their pain.
We sincerely thank the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office and the juvenile prosecutors for bringing this case to a verdict, as well as the Juvenile Police of Ukraine for their effective cooperation during the investigation.
We also extend our gratitude to our partners — Save Ukraine, Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, Daphne Child (Child Protection Hub), and the Center for Civil Liberties — for their support in advancing justice for children and strengthening the child protection system in Ukraine.
